General
Tests are administered on the grading server.
Read and follow the exam rules. Do not discuss an exam with anyone who has not yet taken the exam (or in public where others could hear). This includes general comments about difficulty.
Students who observe or suspect violations of academic integrity should report them to cs61-staff@g.harvard.edu.
Test 2
Test 2 will be on November 7. The test questions will focus on two units, kernel and storage, but since concepts in this class build on each other, you will still need your knowledge of data representation and assembly. Test 2 will be offered in the same two formats as Test 1: proctored in-person and take-home. The in-person format is preferred for college students: you should take the exam in person unless you have a good reason.
In-person exam information: The staff-proctored in-person exam will be administered on Thursday, November 7 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm EST. Exam locations will be assigned the day before the test. You'll bring your computer and complete the test on the grading server.
Virtual exam information: College students who want to take the exam virtually must sign up by 9:00am EST on Wednesday, November 6. The sign-up form will require a good reason (course staff may reject spurious requests). The exam will become available on the grading server at 9:00am EST on Thursday, November 7. You will be able to start the exam at any time until 9:00am EST on Friday, November 8. If you take the exam virtually, as a take-home exam, there will be the additional requirement of a video explaining your answer to one of the questions.
DAO accommodations: If you have DAO accommodations, and take the exam at the DAO Testing Center, this counts as a proctored in-person exam, and you do not need to record a video. Students with DAO accommodations should either sign up to take the test at the testing center, or sign up to take the test virtually.
Extension students: DCE students do not have the option of an in-person exam and must take the exam virtually, including the video.
Final Exam
The final exam will be on December 18 and cover all six units of the course. The final exam will be offered in a similar, but not identical, format to the midterm tests.
In-person exam information: The staff-proctored in-person exam will be administered on Wednesday, December 18 from 9:00am to 12:00pm EST. The final exam location will be released later in the semester. You'll bring your computer and complete the test on the grading server. If you have a conflict with the in-person exam time, you either need to petition for an in-person make-up exam or take the virtual exam.
Virtual exam information: Per registrar policies, every college student may choose between the in-person exam and virtual exam. No approval from course staff is necessary. The virtual exam may be different from the in-person exam in format, content, and/or length. College students who want to take the exam virtually must sign up by 9:00am EST on Friday, November 8. This sign-up form does not require a reason. The exam will become available on the grading server at 9:00am EST on Wednesday, December 18. You will be able to start the exam at any time until 9:00am EST on Thursday, December 19.
DAO accommodations: If you have DAO accommodations and wish to take the in-person exam, the registrar and DAO will schedule your exam time and location. If you wish to take the virtual exam instead, use the sign up form above.
Extension students: DCE students do not have the option of an in-person exam and must take the virtual exam.
